Is there any other difference between 396/402, and the 427 blocks other than bore?

I have what could be either a 68-9 396 or a 70-72 402, most likely out of a truck originally, it's running in the car now, was rebuilt and rodded in 82, it's the two bolt main version. Anyway, I keep hearing that most of the 396/402 blocks have more than enough meat to bore them to 427 and beyond if I get it sonic checked. I was wondering if there was anything else different between typical 402/427 blocks? Basically what I'm trying to say is that I want an honest to goodness 427, so if I bored the **** out of it would everything else be the same as the L88 427s that came in copo and yenko cars? (excluding heads)

If it's a truck block it may be a tall deck. Typically early blocks were meatier and should be sonic checked to bore that far though.

You can't really tell a 496 from a 396 externally, the only difference is the balancer, will be externally balanced, so why not go big and badge it to what you want? The other issue is you maybe out of meat to do any more boring.

Although I prefer the 427 BB of the others, they are the most forgiving during spirited shifting! Big cubes don't like to free wheel.

It's a standard bore too, untouched, when dad hopped it up years ago he used the factory rotating assembly, he says it was a 402 not sure of the year, the casting numbers say it's basically a 396 or 402 between the years of 68-72 and probably out of a truck.
