I was just thinking if you were looking at putting on a LS it would IMO be better to go MPFI with timing control. If i read it correctly the MSD box will not control the timing under the 6014
I appreciate the input, truly. I like the MPFI setups for lots of things, but I'm in the position where I already have the pieces in place for a carbureted setup and ignition control. I'd like to maintain the look, but with the overhead of maybe going FI someday.

I was going to use the Terminator X setup on the LS I have, but my idea of what the final product should be changed. It's still on my radar, though.

I'm digging this back up, because I had the exact same thought last night. Let me know if you hear/see any more info, because this is exactly what I would like to do.
Still no word from customerhelp@holley.com. Anyone have a responsive contact with Holley? Maybe I'm not being patient enough but somehow I feel like I'm just living in the "new world" where customer service just doesn't matter anymore.

Everyone I know has the same thing from tech support... friggin' crickets! Nothing new... been that way since long before COVID... Read all the blogs on Sniper forums about never reaching anyone...

The folks at Holley finally responded to my inquiry. No explanation as to “why” it wont work. Quick to recommend the unit that costs twice as much though. Not feeling too confident this is sound advise but…it is what it is.

“Thank you for contacting Holley Performance. I can not recommend using the Sniper 2 on an LS engine. If you want to do this, I would recommend the Terminator X Stealth system.”

I should have included my original email for context. You be the judge on their response. Im guessing the person who answered the question knows very little about engines, cars and enthusiasts.

“Good afternoon,

I've looked over the installation documentation for this product and it appears that it will work for my application however, I wanted to inquire to confirm.

I have a carbureted LS2 engine using an MSD-6014 ignition system. I'm considering converting from the carburetor to the Sniper2 EFI. Current carb is Holley Ultra XP 750 and the engine is making 500HP/500TQ.

If I understand the installation and required electronic integration correctly, I would use the tach output of the MSD-6014 as the engine speed input for the Sniper2 EFI? The tach output of the Sniper2 would drive my tachometer gauge? I believe it would be beneficial for the optional power distribution block to accommodate a common switched ignition, electric fuel pump and electric fan controls? Thank you.”

Thing is, you can use any carburetor or any electronic throttle-body-type FI system on any internal combustion engine. Period! Yes, some are easier to graft than others but it's only a matter of ingenuity, not the actual system itself. That's what hot rodding is all about, bootlegging! We have been splicing and grafting parts from other cars and trucks into our vehicles to enhance them for decades and now with so many choices, we can do damn near anything we want! The Tach-out from the unit would be enough signal I would guess... Only to have to insure the RF from the rest of the system does not interfere with the clean signal for your ignition.

I gotta just say, I have not had one bit of good customer service from the Holley group in the last 8 years. Their product QC and customer service has gone off the deep end and we cannot any longer blame COVID... It is the corporate bean counters and the profit margins of the stakeholders.. It's always been that way but when $ is more important than quality, we all need to look elsewhere for better products and service so they get the message. That we keep buying this tripe just reinforces their behaviors.

That'll be $0.50, please :p (sorry, inflation... :p )

I'm concerned about idle quality/control more than anything. The install instructions for the MSD talked about an IAC setting. It was pretty vague to my recollection, but sold it as a feature somehow. I think I saw a post somewhere out there on MSD timing adjustments for the 6014 where they were recommending a fixed timing of maybe 20 degrees at 750 and less RPM. It may have been the other way around...fixed timing of 28 deg above 750 rpm. I don't know, it's out there a bit on my project but I don't want to buy a $1500 headache and I'm not going to be a test subject on this. I know the thing ran great with the carb (on the dyno) and I'm leaning back that way at the moment. It needs to be reliable, dependable and better, where the manufacturer supports the application for me to spend the money. Imagine calling for support and they simply say "we don't support that application".

Customer service is a thing of the distant past unfortunately, as you stated. One of many positive business characteristics long lost, I've noticed. 20 years ago, Customer Service was priority #1. I know because I was trained into that culture. I digress.

I'll throw it up the Holley forum as @railroaderman suggests and see what comes of it. I'll even post a link here to the thread. Any and all paying attention to this topic, who has a Holley account, is welcome to join in and post. I'll likely need the support knowing how these things go. We should start a pool as to which # post will be the 1st to infer "YOUR DUMB!".

@kimmer71 if you want reliability, stick with the carb. Period. Run the MSD box the way you normally would, tune it the way you used to, call it a day. If you head out on the road, you're only a carb swap away from being in the road again, or less. Sniper has proven itself to be unreliable with so many issues, whatever anyone says about their sniper, anecdotal response has no place in statistical analysis in reliability. The % of faulty or failed sniper components is beyond a NHSTA mandated recall if this were an OEM part. Yes, I know people love their sniper systems but confirmation bias is merely cognitive dissonance, nothing else. It's a bad way to make a decision.

Catch my drift, beo?

This is once I somewhat disagree. In analytical analysis every case in included, good, fair and bad. The only response one can give is their "personal" experience. With Holley mine has been good. Now, I don't like what can be a lengthy wait on the phone for tech service, reduced hours during the week and no weekend availability but I have always received a call back. Have also found Holley receptive to warranty provisions, even when the part was passed their warranty period.

The response Kimmer got was not Good, it was Bull. The response didn't even address his question.

Now I do have an issue which I'm working on and resolution of that, might change my opinion. As far as my opinion, it's really only has value for ME.

You really can't say that without knowing how many Holley sold and how many failed due to manufacturing defect not user error. People are many times more likely to report problems than satisfaction.
