71 Nova quarter windows won’t stay on track

Hey Fella’s

I’m having a hell of a time getting my quarter windows to stay on track, or even start to roll down on track. I’ve got new guides and window channel. I glued the guide channel to the glass, as instructions say, and put the guide in from the bottom of window channel and pushed it as snug as think I could. I set the glass in position at the top (rolled up). When I rolled it down, it immediately comes off track at the bottom. It’s like when the regulator starts to widen (roll down) it pulls the glass out of the window channel with guide channel attached. Instead of going up\down, it pulls it towards where the window channel is bolted up first before going down.

Everything is from Classic-Indusries. The new window channel is bolted in the correct hole at the rear and channel seems to be where it needs to be.

Any help would be great!

Did you replace the weatherstrip run channel that goes in the B-pillar? What the nylon guide rides in? Up until recently the repop channel was missing the internal channel for the nylon guide and the window would not roll up and down properly.

Also, I do not remember which year it came into play. but the quarter windows were revised not to roll down all the way.

Sorry for delay, just saw your reply. Yes, I replaced the B-pillar channel. I got it Classic Industries. So you’re saying the original and new are made differently?

Are you still using the original front weather strip guide?

I did buy new ones, but I do have only one of the originals. Also new window channel. Thanks for your reply!

For a 72, can't see why 71 would be different. These are just the front vertical channels, the piece that was changed to be functional now.

Okay guys, I have figured it out! I am about to help everyone with dealing with the pain of 68-72 Nova quarter glass window install.
Okay, if y’all were like me, you were dead set on the window rolling straight down into track, right? Well, that’s not how it works. I just left looking at another 71 and the glass when rolled, does “break loose” from the bottom. I was dead set on the plastic guide piece being glued to the glass at the bottom, when in fact it is glued at the top of the glass and when the glass is rolled down, it stays in the window channel from the top! Y’all understand what I’m saying? Any help I can give, I’ll be more than happy to help. Lord knows I’ve f**ked with these windows for a week almost giving up.

There are 2 versions of the Channel kits. Standard keeps the window in a fixed position the Functional kit allows the rear window to roll up and down as it did originally.
The pillar channel will allow for a functional window but there are no predrilled holes or hardware. You will need to use your original screws if you have them. Drill the holes and dimple the
hole to countersink it. A little late on the conversation but hopefully it will help somebody down the road..
Kits can be purchased at
Classic Industries
Ground up
Chevy II only

Also late in the conversation, but the window does not roll straight down. I've owned my '71 for 50 years, and that is just how it works. Here is a screenshot from a 1971 Nova marketing film from Chevrolet. It does not roll down fully, only about 3/4 of the way down and it stops.

Yep. I personally think its hideous the way these windows work. That just looks like something is broken. I've seen a post where the stop on the late model regulators can be removed/modified and the glass can be rolled down completely, which is how it needs to be. Either all the way down or all the way up. Anything in between looks like crap.

I'm about to order the trim to reinstall my quarter windows. The chrome guide piece for each was in the bottom of the panel. The original fuzzies were ruined. After looking at a lot of the info, it looks like the windows don't operate well to begin with and may or may not go all the way down. If they won't go all the way down, putting them in fixed seems like the way to go. I'm really going back and forth on ordering the functional or non-functional replacements.
