If yours is a 3rd Gen and they are rubbing the tires you have much bigger problems.

 

I mini tub my first GEN just to the frame rails and remove them… I did add a four link and haven’t had any issues…You could always use some of the aftermarket ones that screw in and just attach them straight to the bottom of the frame rail if you were worried about them

 

My first 66 I had years ago I just cut them off. It was never an issue. This was before these cars were worth so much money and nobody thought twice about cutting them up.

 

I put these in my coilovers, So far so good...............

I also removed mine when I mini tubbed. I am running the Church Boys 2" multi leaf springs- If I bottom those out I will be very surprised.
I have thought about welding them on the inside of the frame rail though- switch from side to side maybe.

 

If your tires are protruding out into the wheel well and you're looking for a little more clearance, shaving them down could be an option.
