Moroso Springs 47150 question

Hi all, I have a 70 nova with a SBC in it front weights in at 1725 lbs. I race only this car (never sees street use). I use Hoosier 10x28x15 slicks. The car runs 10.50’s with a 1.44 60’ I was having spinning issues in the 60’ and was hoping for improvement with these upgrades. I have installed moroso 47150 springs in the front. The front is a bit high at this time. I’m also upgrading my rear leaf springs to Calvert split left mono instead of multi leaf. In talking to Calvert today they informed me that my front end needs to have at least 5” of travel in the front, for proper weight transfer. I check it today and I have 1” of travel before the front tires lift from the ground. I measured the gap between the control arm bumper (snubber) and I have aprox 2-5/8” inches. I don’t see anyway to get 5” of travel on the front, even if I slam the front all the way to the control arm. I intend on cutting one inch off the 47150 springs to lower the front 2”. My question is should I remove the rubber snubbers on the bottom control arms? Is there some way to get more travel in the front instead of cutting the springs? I would appreciate any help or advice.

How are you measuring your travel? The car is sitting there, measure from the ground to the crossmember in front. Jack the car up until the tire just comes off the ground then measure from the ground to the crossmember again. Not usually all that hard to get 5 inches of travel.

Travis at Calvert said to measure from the center of spindle to the fender (car on ground) Jack front of car up until tires lift off the ground and measure same place again. This would give me my suspension travel.

Do you have the wrong shocks? Try unbolting the top nut and see if you find more travel. Years ago I would move the nut up to where it was just about to fall off to get more travel. Eventually it did fall off!
I ground off the serrations on the control arm bushings and kept everything well lubed to make the front end as loose as possible. Snubbers were cut down next to nothing.

I would start by lowering the car. Then cut the lower snubber to give you room if you have to. Then remove the upper snubbers and go with an adjustable travel limiter like that from S&W race cars. After you get that out of the way, check your shock to see where it is topping out. You don't want the shock to be the travel limiter.

Those Moroso springs are pretty stiff at first install until you drive on them a bit. I am willing to bet they just are not loosend up yet since install and that is what is causing your lack of travel at this time. I run the same spring in my 68 with 2 coils cut off and have over 5" of travel but they are well broken now!

No sway bar, will cut the lower snubber down, remove upper snubber (I forgot this one) and lower it by 2". The shocks should be ok their for this car but will check.

Fasteddie our cars run close to the same! and street legal. Looked at your pic's very nice job. hope the Calvert setup works as good for me.

Thanks to everyone for your input, I will get to rest of these chages in the next few days and give an update.:D

Thanks for the compliment!!! Hoping to get the car in 9's this year but every time I turn around something else comes up. Pulled the 3rd member on my 9" for some maintenance and found it was cracked so now I need to save up a few more bucks to buy a new 3rd member so who knows when I will get back to the track!!! The Cal Trac stuff works great but takes a little bit of tuning to get it right, been 1.42 60ft off the foot brake and I believe it will go in the mid 1.30's. Good luck!!!!

Hi Y'all, I cut the lower control arm snubber down by about 3/4", removed the upper snubber and cut 1-1/2 coils off the springs. These mods now give me 4-1/2 inches of travel. I was thinking the springs will settle by 1/2" in time, for a total of 5" of travel. In removing the upper snubber, not sure how this will effect my RT or 60' time. But I didn't think I needed a limiter at this time, will see how this works out.

Now for the rear Calvert split leafs. Currently the pinion is 1.75 deg. (nose up), the trans yoke is at 1.75 deg. (nose down) and the drive line is at 0 deg. I was thinking I should put a 2 Deg tilt on the pinion.
