I just got a ford 9" rear it is a all original open one that is 52" from backing plate to backing plate. How much do you think it would cost to make it a pos and mount it under my 68? I think it may be a just little stronger then my eton pos 8.2 rear I have now :D But I just put a bunch of money into it.

You can talk to Currie Enterprises. They specialize in Ford 9" rear axles. You may be able to find someone local but choose wisely.
I did a simple Google search and came up with Dad's Hot Rod Shop in New Hampshire.
(I don't know the guy or vouch for him)

If you have the time and a welder just do it your self. All you will need to do is grind off the old perches and weld on new ones in the correct spot for your nova and putting a posi in on a 9" is easy since there are no carrier shim just threaded adjuster. Just set the lash to where it was before you removed the carrier.

I can tell you how I did mine.
I got a big bearing 9" housing at a local swap meet for 60$ The housing was already stripped of all its brackets and stuff.
I sent the housing out to a local company called DutchmanAxles. They narrowed it,built NHRA legal alloy axles, installed a drain plug, gave me new seals,6" wheel studs, retaining brackets and bearing for 565$
I got a complete used 11" drum brake assembley of of E-bay for 39.00$
I had to drill the drums to a Chevy bolt pattern my self.(Dutchman asked which bolt pattern I wanted,I told them Chevy, I should have said Ford...Oh,well)
I bought a CAW case, with a full Moser aluminum spool,4:11's almost new and already set up. From a nice gentleman on this site for 200$.
So in just the rearend, not forgeting brakelines, bolts, nuts, breather valve etc,I'm in it about 900.00$
Not to bad.

My rear was a narrowed direct bolt in with an open unit.

I paid around $700 for a center section with a brand new US Gear made by Strange (3.70) and a brand new traction loc posi unit. I bolted a non-nodular unit in and called it a day. How much power are you putting down. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to invest in axles if you are putting down less than 350hp to the rear wheels.

I bought ford pattern wheels and left the factory ford axles in it.

If I am not mistaken, a stock 9" is as strong if not stronger than any stock 12-bolt. 12-bolts came in 450+ hp factory cars.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.
