I hope this is the correct section to post this question. I'm looking for a good horn replacement kit and most importantly a diagram of how all the parts go back together. 1964 Chevy II.

See if this helps.

First picture is of the wheel

Second picture is when the cap is removed. 3 phillips screws that are through an insulator ring that has 3 plastic sleeves for these three screws. You'll see that the thin part of the ring is broken in later pictures, but it should be a ring.

Third picture is after the three screws are removed. There is a plastic insulator (yellow white) that nests into tabs of a zinc plated contact plate below it.

Not posting well, I'm sure, but here are 3 more shots:

The steering wheel has nothing in the hub now but a BROKEN contact piece. This contact piece has a spring loaded brass cylinder in a plastic housing that fits into a slot in the steering wheel.

Second shot is of the chrome horn half-ring and the screws with the broken insulator.

Last shot shows the insulator separate from the zinc plate contact piece.

When installing, make sure the contact surface on the zinc plate and on the spring loaded brass piece are clean and not corroded.

Hope that helps.

Horn repair.

Then the spring and pin go into the hole shown in the last set of pictures under the contact plate? any suggestions where to pick up the repair kit. I would like to use all new parts, my retainer is broken and I figure if I'm replacing some stuff I may as well do the whole assembly.

The 'pin', the brass pin in the plastic gray housing, goes under the zinc plate and fits right in the steering wheel hub. The other end comes out through the plastic cam on the back side of the steering wheel, and it runs on the brass contact with the wire that is on the bearing on the turn signal switch.

I'd try any one of the aftermarket suppliers for the parts. Not sure what is available, though you might post an ad for the parts.
