is anyone on here running a miniblower on their motors? i have a little B&M supercharger on my wife's car and this weekend while cruising we noticed a noise...almost like a rattle, but didnt sound serious. we slowed down to check it out, noise went away...thought it was cheap gas, put better gas in, still same thing...it picks up the noise after the car warms up and you are cruising about 2200 RPMs but disappears at lower RPMs. well then on the way home, it picked up a whine in the blower...so i checked the oil and it was low...does this happen a lot? i have heard that they use a little oil and you have to watch it, and some of the blowers have a sight on them to see the oil...so i guess my question is, has anyone else run into this? or do i need to look for a new blower?

I've got a B&M 144 probably simular to yours but can't say I've had any of the problems you're describing.
Obviously the rattle could be coming from anywhere but I'd be concerned that it might be detonation. I'd check the timing at idle and also see what it maxes out at and at what rpm. Are you running a vacuum advance; check the timing with it disconnected and the line plugged. I'd also check the timing with it conncected at idle to see how much advance it is adding.
My blower has a "fill" plug at the top of the gear cover with a small hole to act as a vent. There's another plug near the bottom that you check the level with. Make sure you top it it up with 90W gear oil.
CHeck the belt for cracks, missting ribs etc.
You might want to remove the carb and check the teflon strips on the edges of the rotors; they tend to rip/fall out. Maybe there's a piece flopping around in there; not likely as they usually go through the motor :(.
If you do remove the carb, I'd also remove the belt and turn the top pulley by hand to see and hear if the rotors/gears are moving freely.
Aren't blowers supposed to whine :).

Tony, you said the blower picked up a whine and the oil was low. What oil is in the gear cases? It should be gear oil. The 'blower whine' comes mainly from the gears and if that pitch changes, well maybe something is going on there? A seal perhaps? Low oil egged a couple bearing pins, perhaps? Blowers don't 'use oil'. It's just a couple gear cases, seals, bearings, gears.

Not unless there is a puddle of disgusting smelling gear oil lying on your intake then the gasket on the gear case is leaking.... had that problem. I also noticed some mist around the top plug/vent so I put in a hose barb and connected it to the air breather to eliminate the mess.
I've never put enough miles on to see any real drop in level.
I've tore mine apart twice to restrip the feflon and never saw any evidence of gear oil getting into the main housing.

yeah i've got that vent there with the allen head bolt. then on the snout, down where it says forced induction, there is a hole in there...is that supposed to be there? i'll try to get a pic tonite...i have a feeling that might be where my oil is goin...we've put about 3500 miles on the blower, but we didnt buy it brand new...actually got less than a 100 bucks tied up in it...i'll get a pic of that hole tonite...it was there when i got it.
