If I remember correctly, my join was at the lock (bottom) and I blue taped it to hold it in place. I did a dry fit to get an idea of how much I would need and to know if I over stretched it.

This was on my 69.

 

I've always just closed the lid on it and then it conforms to how it will be.....

Unless yours is off.....

 

thats what I did. I also used a glue we have at work 1300L, that stuff is good but the trick is to put glue on both sides like mentioned and let it set up for a few minuets then install. You best make sure its right if not your F.U.B.A.R.

It seems like it is at least a foot or 18" too long. I'll cut it to length when I get to the area near the trunk lock. (after it is nearly all glued down)

Yes, I cut it close with some extra and final trimmed it after it was 95% glued in. Use a razor knife, on a piece of wood for a nice clean cut to join and seam.

 

Thanks for the advise. I just tried gluing soem down. WOW does that glue set up fast. No need for any masking tape!

when I did my 63s I cut the going seam at a 45 and glued them together, gave it a more cleaner looking seam. I just used regular contact cement, like you'd use for a headliner, with the brush applicator cap.

 

Most of those adhesives say to put it on both the body and rubber, let it sit for 15 min or so until they feel very tacky or almost dry, then put them together...they will stick very well...enough where you won't have to worry about it slipping.
