Were they an option or were they mandatory as part of the '70 Super Sport package?

Basically, the question is, all of the SS cars in 1970 came with front disc brakes but were they all power? Or could they have also been non-power front disc brakes?

Thank you. Very good information. Looks like I will be sticking with the power front discs rather than eliminating the booster. I did have to wonder about this comment in there though;

"The next thing to check is the engine code. If the engine is original (the last 6 digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine block) and it has a application code (also stamped on the block) that decodes to an SS only engine, then you have a real SS."

Mine decodes to a 300hp/350 but I do not believe that I have ever seen any reference that specifically lists "a application code that decodes to an SS only engine". Specifically the "SS only" part of that. I have known this car since it was new & know it to be original. I have just not seen a reference that lists "SS only" in the engine codes. Or was it just a bad choice of words on their part?

SS Engine...

The engine code that is stamped on the deck denotes the size, hp, trans. and application. The base engine for the 70 Nova SS was the 350/300hp small block...you couldn't order that engine in any other Nova, so by default it signifies an SS car. You could also order the 396 in either 350hp or 375hp...both of these were only available in the SS model as well.

So, if your 1970 Nova has any of these 3 engines...with the last six of the VIN on the deck stamp...you have a Nova SS.
