Hello All,
I just purchased a Custom Autosound radio for my 65 Nova, I was looking at some speakers for the freont and rear and saw classic industries has a dual speaker that goes in the front dash, where the original single speaker used to be, I will put 6x9's in the rear, but was wondering if anyone has installed the double speaker in their original dash speaker mount.
I do not want to cut, nor drill holes in dash

Thanks all in advance

Rick

Before you cut the package tray area. Check out the package tray cover with speaker cut outs available from classic industries. It's a really nice piece and allows you to hide the speakers instead of top mounting them and using the ugly aftermarket grilles. Just be sure to get that piece first as it will dictate where the 6x9 holes need to be cut.

Yes I have installed the dual front speaker - the kicker - real easy to do use the exsisting bracket to hold it into place It doesnt look like its going to work but it does just have to hold it tight in place and start the nut on the braket. I am very inpressed with the sound.

For new front stereo speakers on my '71 that was originally factory equipped with a single mono speaker, I made my own speaker assembly using some 1/4 inch plywood painted black, a small strip of sheet metal (Simpson Strong Tie, I believe) and two 4 inch Pioneer dual cone speakers. What I made closely resembles the small dual speaker models that have been for sale for decades. It works fine for my application. I am not using any extra power for the speakers -- just what the radio provides. No cutting was required, but I did lower the steering column, remove the instrument panel and heater controls to make installation simpler. I've torn apart my dash more than once, and it doesn't frighten me to do it.

I have the Classic dual coil front speaker in mine, was installed back around Easter as I already had better 6x9's in the rear and an under seat slimline self powered sub (under the passenger seat). Works great, fit the bracket well with some fiddling (mostly because it's a tight space and you're working through where the glovebox is) but sounds MUCH better than stock.

It's not going to blow your brains out like some super high end speaker but is a much fuller, crisper sound with much more range and WAY better base.

I am going to have to replace my package tray as here in Australia (Queensland) we had HEAPS of rain and humidity and it's warped, thinking I might swap out the 6x9's for 6.5" speakers for a tighter bass and a bit less boom as it's only a small cabin and 6x9's aren't the greatest layout for sound quality.
