Hey guys, Just wondering what some of you guys with 66s and 67s are running for a battery? Im keeping the battery in the stock location up in the right front corner. Im not really sure what size battery to run?

Battery Size

I think all Chevy IIs came with a group 24 battery. Back then you could buy a group 24, one for G.M. another for FoMoCo, or you could buy a group 27 battery. The Group 27 was found in large cars, with large engines, and in pick-up trucks.

I tried fitting my group 24 battery into my battery box when I relocated the battery to the trunk. Would not really fit in the box.

So I now have a group 25 Optima battery in the box. Fits fine.

While I cannot comment on the years you asked about, on my 68 I wanted to retain a somewhat authentic look and opted for the battery topper cover fitted and placed above a battery from the local parts store.

There are plenty of choices out there but of you can get the largest one with the most CCA that will still fit in the battery tray and allow it to be held down securely.

I've been looking for a battery for our 66 I've been working on this summer and thinking about going with a walmart group 24. Good price and good cranking power, if you don't mind buying from wallyworld.

You can use a group 27, which is a little bigger. I think you then need to use a different battery hold down.

Why not get a Delco battery, you pay a little more for it but at least it looks good sitting in there. You go to car shows and see nicely done cars and then they have some stupid cheap battery sitting there and it takes away the whole presentation of the car!
My two cents!

I believe that your Chevy II has a battery tray for a group 24 battery.
I do not think anything larger will fit.
As your battery is up in plain view, I think you will be happy to have a genuine AC Delco battery on display,
