I've got some questions about this system, I just heard about it for the first time about a week or so ago.

1. I plan to do mostly street driving with a little track time, which is better in your opinion, Heidt's 4 Link system, or this truck arm system?

2. I plan to use a 305/45/18 tire in the rear, which would be easier to work with, I've heard that you can't narrow your rearend with the Heidt's?

3. How does the Truck arm system install, I've never seen this set up and wondering how it compares to the Heidt's 4link install, is it completely bolt in?

4. Also, I've heard the 4 link system can be clunky for street driving, even with a panhard/track locator bar, is this problem eliminated the the Truck arm system?

5. I would like to have the back of the car lowered at least 2", which system gives me more adjustability, I understand that clearance could be an issue with tires of that size?

I think that's about it for now, I plan to order a kit from one of these two in the next two months.

Oh yea, I want to run a 12 bolt instead of a 9", is one system better for this than the other?

I have this system on my 1977 Pro Touring Nova. Check my posts for details on the install. If you have additonal questions, or want to see pics, you can PM me.

Here's a few brief answers to your questions:

1. I have no basis for comparing the two, but in testing I have found the HRTH Truck Arm very reasonable for street driving. It does make the car more rigid, but also more predictable, especially under hard cornering. I have not been able to push the car past the limits of the suspension(yet), so I would say that it should make for a very stout track performer as well.

2. The only thing I have heard about the Heidt's set-up is that you can't narrow the frame rails, as the system is designed to bolt directly to the existing frame rails and spring mounts. I'm not sure this applies to the actual width of the rear, but someone more knowledgeable about the Heidt's setup can speak to that. With the Truck Arm, I think they told me that up to a 12" wide wheel will fit no problem. I'll say my 10" wide wheels fit with PLENTY of room to spare.

3. The HRTH setup is NOT a bolt in. It's entirely a weld-in system, which on my car also required removal of the rear floor pans and the installation of new, flat panels. The only part of this thing that bolts in is the shocks and the panhard bar. Everything else requires a welder.

4. I have not noticed any clunking with the Truck Arm, either in my Nova or in my dad's 66 Chevy Pickup or my 69 Chevy Pickup, both of which use the truckarm setup stock from the factory. There are some innovations out there on 4 links that help to eliminate the clunkiness, but it has not been a problem on my truck arm at all.

5. The HRTH setup lowers the car at least 2 inches right out of the box, but of course the rear springs are completely adjustable so you can probably work up and down on that quite a bit. I can't speak to your tire size question, because that has a lot to do with backspacing, wheeltubs, etc., - more than just the suspension.

Almost everyone recommends the 9", but the suspension system doesn't really care. You have to weld on new spring perches anyway regardless of whether its a 10", 12", or 9".

Hope that helps.

J,
I built my intire HotRod from scratch, and my own design of the 'Truck-Arm' suspension. It works great and rides even better. I used AFCO aluminum coilover shocks on my design.
