ZZ4-350 --> 1962 ChevyII - Parts question

Hey folks,

My old 283 conversion engine is bad mojo....it's got to go away. Was looking at the ZZ4-350 at a shop and seemed like a good deal until the shop guy said there would be issue due to oil pan and cross member...2 piece to 1 peice main seal, etc... Now, I have to believe this is possible, so looked around and seems like folks are running these, just need to figure out what extra tasks are there to get a newer model V8 into my nova....

Now, researching, I found this kit at NNNova.com

http://nnnova.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_200&products_id=61

Is this really all that's required? I read some other threads here about the need to cut/weld the crossmember which is in the way, etc...

In my case, I already had a V8 in so this isnt a new v8 conversion ( someone did this back in the 90s before I had this car )....so not sure the extra steps needed to support the ZZ4 one piece mainseal setup.

Any guidance appreciated.

Don, I have a pan like that on my 64. It's a one piece rear main seal 350. The pan will work great. I believe the NNN kit has the correct main stud for the pickup tube. I have a 4 bolt main block so it might be different than a two bolt. You might have to do some creative bending(slight) to get the pickup right. Send a PM if you want, I can e-mail pics.

You will not have to cut a crossmember. I even have the factory power steering. No problems.

IF I'M UNDERSTANDING CORRECTLY, YOU'RE JUS' PUTTIN' A BIGGER CU. IN. V8 IN.
I'VE NEVER DEALT WITH A 283, BUT I'M FIGURING THE BLOCK DIMENSIONS ARE THE SAME OR CLOSE.
I'VE DONE 4 V8 SWAPS FOR MEMBERS HERE AND THE ONLY ISSUE I HAD WAS THE OILPAN HITTING THE STEERING LINKAGE, ENDED UP USING A FRONT SUMP OIL PAN AND THAT PROBLEM WENT AWAY! ANOTHER WAY IS A CBR SETUP! :yes: BUT ONCE THE TRANS WAS DOWN IN THERE I MODIFIED THE ORIGINAL MOUNT, BUT A NEW ONE CAN BE PURCHASED.

I HOPE I'M UNDERSTANDING CORRECTLY AND OFFERING THE RIGHT INTEL

Windage Tray removal -

Checked out the NNN site and see they have a ZZ4 kit with most the parts needed ( I don't need all since I already have a 283 inside )..

Anyways, I am guessing that I have no choice on removing the windage tray as it will conflict with the fitting on the pan/etc due to the funky configuration downstairs on the old ChevyIIs.......but reading online seems to be that removing this can rob some power/durability....

Do I have any options?
