Been debating on trans, Was thinking 700r4 for the simplicity of it. But really would like to run a 4l80e. I was wondering what is the easiest to use as far as controllers ( simply shift, comp shift,tci...... looking for real world experenice. Thanks

It would help just a little to know what you are putting in front of this trans. The GM PCM does a pretty good job of controlling the trans, assuming you are using the LS platform.....

T,
trans

I have a 408 ls N/a fuel injected controled with holley hp efi (my plan was a 6speed or i would have picked up the dominator) but the more i thought about it the less i wanted to keep shifting gears in town. All the parts i have bought are sitting in garge got everything except trans. I seen the new tci superstreet fighter looks good for the price. I have also a qoute from xtremetransmissions for a 4l80 with billet converter for 3100. then u have to buy a controller to run it another 550$.
I love shifting the gears so I run my 4l80 full manual (no controller). Think 4 speed no clutch but great on the hwy.
Did u have to have anything done to trans to run it manualy all the time or just didnt hook up the electronics?

I ran/run an OptiShift (I think it is now US Shift) with a Cable X speedometer conversion on my 4L80E in my '63 truck. You can go a full manual valve body and forego the TCM.
I had it built by a local shop but I would say it needs a manual valvebody installed not sure what other internal mods were made but it works like a charm and I am pushing 600hp 620tq. Built, installed with converter and warranty $3000 Canadian. The linkage for the shifter I had to fab it up as the linkage that B&M (I use a Prostick) said to use was special order and took 2 weeks to canada and even then didn't line up the cable straight causing binding. I used a 5' cable run down the pass side back under trans and then froward to the trans shift linkage.

If you want to run your stock speedo you will have to change the tailhousing.
I use the tach (and the Force) for my speed so I did not change it and can always add a guage type speedo to the existing tailhousing if ever needed.

In a 3rd gen the fit a 4l80 is tight but will fit without cutting the trans tunnel.

Trans cooling lines are tight to the trans tunnel. Before installing the trans Pre make short lines with connections on both ends (6" or enough to get clearance from the trans/tunnel)) with a clean bend as colse to the connection to the trans as possible without restricting flow then connect them and tighten. Then once the trans is installed run you cooling lines forward. Trying to install the cooling lines after installing the trans is tough due to limited space. Never like to have an extra connection on a fluid line but in this case it was for the best IMO

Takes a lot of fluid so keep on pouring (15+bottles) Transmisson killing heat is not a problem with that much fluid.

I Am Not A Mechanic...just sayin:D

Here are a few pics of it installed

I'm looking at running a jakes 4l80e mvb with trans brake,to replace the t56. Jakes has a nice sale going on now the above package is $2300 shipped. I want the mvb so I can control the shifts,it's nice to able to short shift at the track when needed.
