should the bleeders face up or down on the front calipers?

X 2 on this notion.. My neighbor had a spongy brake pedal and it would never seem to be just right when hitting the pedal. Come to find out that he mounted the calipers on the opposite side. Once he swapped them back to where they belong, the car stops without any problems.Up so all the air can escape.
