I for sure would buy the eaton compressor. I strongly believe the two stage is better for body work and painting. I have the same two stage compressor but with the 80 gal tank. The motor on the eaton compressors are huge compared the the big box store compessors. For the home hobbiest you'll never wear out the eaton, just change the oil every once in a while. The eaton compressor is much quietier than the sears it replaced. You will never regret going bigger, while you may regret the smaller one later. Just my .02.
Which one of these compressors should I get?
Well it sounds like my Craftsman compressor is about to die, and I'm a looonnngg way from getting the car done. So I'm sure I will be needing to replace my compressor soon.
I've narrowed it down to these two compressors from Eaton. Both are the same price at $1190. I was thinking about the Lowe's Kobalt 3 cylinder, 230 volt, 14.6 cfm at 90 psi for $799 (closeout at $650 if I time it right). But instead, I'm thinking I'll just spend the extra cash and get a really really nice compressor that should last a lifetime, and after reading all of what they are about and their philosophy on compressors, Eaton is the way I want to go.

#1 is a 230 volt, single phase, 5 HP, 80 gallon, single stage, two cylinder compressor, 19.5 cfm at 100 psi, 150 psi max.

I am going to be doing as much of my own bodywork as possible, and that MIGHT include filling, sanding, priming my car, and if I get REALLY fiesty, I might even try to paint it myself. Other stuff would include blowing out my lawn irrigation, etc.
I DON'T NEED 175 psi, so I'm not sure if the two stage is better. Yeah, it probably pumps up faster (although it has a 60 gallon tank vs the single stage 80 gallon). And since they are both the same price, I figured I'd ask you guys what you thought.
