i just put a new motor in my car 350 chevy with hei distributor and i set the timing with the vacuum line off and set it to 8 btdc and then i hooked the vacuum line back on and checked it again and it didn't move?? i go and rev it up and it will rev good one time then the next time it will spit and sputter out the carb like the timing is wrong and it pops the odd time in the exhaust i go down the road and get on it and it sputters but once your driving and you get into the rpms its not too bad any suggestions, all the wires are ok and going to the right spot is my vacuum advance messed up? very hard to start and runs on

Make sure you're running full manifold vacuum. Ported vacuum was used for emission control and isn't the best place to pick up a vacuum source.
