Took the ole Nova out for it's first passes after some upgrades. Weather was good and on some marginal slicks left over from last year as well as some questionable Torco gas from last year it ran 5.436, 5.415 and a 5.418. Car worked OK, motor ran fine but the times were less than expected. Looking at alot of data now but the converter looks loose and the EGTs and plug readings suggest it is lean. That may be from the gas? Anyway we are running again and that is always a good thing. RM

Sounds like a good day regardless, go to track, race, go home. No broken parts = good day.

I know you've probably posted but I can't remember what changes you made or what your goals were. I'm sure with some more track time you'll get there.

Good luck with getting it where you want it!

I had the heads professionaly ported with a fresh valve grind at new angles and new valve springs. I swapped a 5.13 gear out to a 4.88. I added a SpeedTech difuser Nitrous system which made me remove my Wilson bulletnose spacer which cost me 20 hp.

Joe, don't know what ET you were looking for, but that looks like a good start, very consistent . Was your MPH where you expected?

I want to run a 5.30 index class. The car would and has run several 5.31s last year but it needed a good track and air to do it. Most of our races are in the heat and the car would only run 5.40s in the heat. The goal is to run 5.20s in decent air and 5.300 in the heat. The car has been deadly consistant since I built this motor with this chassis but it has not been fast enough to run the index class. The heads flow enough air to go fast now but I need to replace the cam to get full benifit from them it looks like. I installed the NOS so there wil never be any question about running fast enough........LOL. It should be able to run 4.90s/5.0s with a big tune up. I'll play with the motor tune up and maybe send the converter out to get upgraded so I haven't given up on 5.20s yet. This was the first 3 passes on this motor combo... RM
