I replaced my 30year old carb today for an Edelbrock 1406. Runs great! Less mpg but much better performance. The old qjet was equipped with a fuelventport but the 1406 has none. I've read posts on blocking the line and adding a vented gascap, putting a breather on it or even hooking it to the timed vacuum but why not drill a hole in the bottom of the airfilter and insert the hose there?

Other than the potential for the engine to backfire through the breather, and the flame reach the tank, and

no reason whatsoever.

Maybe adding a PCV in line would allieve that possible scenario. Their primary function is to stop a backfire from entering the crankcase.
