I have a hand built 383 stroker in my 74 nova, the car still has the stock TH400 in it. When we put the engine in and started connecting everything we noticed something that we had no idea what it was or where it went. Currently my car doesn’t kick down to a lower gear when I floor it, could this be the kickdown switch and if so, how do I connect it? I can post a picture if needed.

yes its the kickdown switch that is not hooked up. On the TH-400 it is done electrically, there will be a spot on the drivers side of the trans where a wire will hook up too. the switch is either on the carb or somewhere on the gas pedal under the dash.
If you can't figure out how to hook it up or if its missing, and you don't mind it not working, it won't hurt anything to leave it disconnected. Mine has not been hooked up for 30 yrs with no problem with the trans.

TH400 kickdown switch

The TH400 switch and matching bracket are available from Summit. I have the set and it is trouble-free.
