Torque Converter

 I am considering a TH700-R4 overdrive transmission for my 67 Nova. Can anyone give me a idea how to select the converter with the correct stall speed. I'm running a 350 motor with a Comp Cam, Edlebrock Air Gap manifold & Carb. It is not an every day driver but with a 4.10 rear I would like to be able to run at highway speeds at a reasonable RPM. I believe the engine develops good low to mid range torque and idles about 1100 RPM. I think an 1800 to 2000 will be fine but don't know if a 2400 would be to much. Drivability is important but so is performance. Any suggestions are appreciated.

With the overdrive from the 700 trans it should loaf right along on the highway. If you get a lock-up converter, driveability should be fine, and you could still have 24-2800 stall.

I think the 700r4 has a lower first gear than a TH350/400. That along with the 4.10 rear is going to get you moving in a hurry. You shouldn't need a really high stall convertor. If you can have a lock-up convertor that stalls at 2400-2800 rpm that would be about perfect I think.

Frank,
If you already have the 4.10 gears installed, consider a 200-4R, instead of the 700. the first gear in the 200 is still lower than the TH350 and the OD is slightly higher than the 700. It is also an easier swap than the 700 because you don't have to change the DS, maybe not even the yoke. it also has a tighter gear spacing than the 700. Expect to spend about the same amount for a properly built trans, converter, crossmember, and TV setup, without the expense on the driveshaft. You come out ahead all around.
