I have a chance to get the hole 92 Firebird reasonable price and I've read to hookup a aftermarket TCC lockup system for the OD is the way to go. My thoughts are in the donor car it used a ECM so why not use it for the 4th gear convertor lockup? Not for sure how much trouble it would be for all the wires that would still be on the ECM from the Firebird too get rid of or eliminate them don't really know if eliminating wire is possible. So what would be the best or easiest way for TCC lockup in the 4L60?

Is it a 4L60? Or 4L60E?

If you keep the factory fuel injection, keep the PCM and let that handle the transmission. If it's 4L60E, this is your best option. An aftermarket transmission only controller is required and expensive for that transmission with a carbed engine.

If you are going with a carb, and it's a 4L60/700R4, a vacuum switch and a 4th gear pressure switch are all you need to run the TCC clutch. Everything else is mechanical on that one. The pressure switch may already be present for the current PCM to use.

The car is a 92 so no E trans there. I'm a old school kind of a guy so I'll change out the FI and will use a Performer intake with a Holley 600 vac sec manual choke carb. The stock pressure switch needs to be changed to an aftermarket pressure switch from all the kits ive seen . Reading all ideas about aftermarket TCC kits all don't use a temp switch my thoughts on that is the stock 92 trans has a temp switch so why do they say take it out. Hopefully our 64 deuce will like the Trans change out with keeping the 194
No interest in my Speed Racer and Racer X die cast stuff?

Doesn't the temp switch not allow the Trans to go into the 4th gear lockup or OD until proper operating temp is seen?

The engine coolant temperature switch is more about using the torque converter churn (and resulting heat) to speed up the warming up of the engine through the cooler in the radiator. It's not that the TCC won't work as well if the fluid is cold.

Some "TCC controllers" have an input for a coolant temp switch. Most just ignore that particular input.
So what I understand is I "can" takeout the temp switch from the VB and plug it without any problems and trans " will " function just fine. Thanks.
