Timing question

922 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  6NOVA4
My 383 stroker is officially up and running. I am now ready to start fine tunning. What initial timing should I run and what advanced. I am running at 9.5 to 1 compression, an HEI with vacuum advance, a Holley 670 street avenger and a Muncie M21 4sd. Any other info?
My manule says 8 deg b for a stock 350. Will this still be ok for this motor? I am also at 5300 ft elivation.
Thanks for your help.

I'd put as much initial timing as you can without causing the starter "grunt" when cranking. Also total timing should be around 32-36* by 3,000. run what you can without pinging.

I don't know about high elevations but at sea level here in nor cal I ran 12-14* initial and 32-36* at 3,000 on my 383 in my pickup. I also used a adjustable vacuum advance unit set for 12-14* at cruise on top of the 32-36* advance.
