Without a puller what is the best way to remove the gear. It isn't comming off without any help. Could I apply some light heat to the gear it's self and pry it off, or should I just get a puller?

It's a steel gear so I can't split it.

The big brown truck is bringing parts today and I want to start on it tonight. I am just tapped on funds right now. So what do you think?

Buy a cheap puller or some auto parts stores will rent them.

Splitting them or pulling them is the only way I know...

Definitely use a puller. You should be able to pick one up at Sears, and they should be open tonight. HD or Lowes might work too, but that's more of a longshot.

I just called Autozone and they have the rentals so I'll go check them out.

Well that was easy. I just flipped the engine over on the stand, and a couple smacks with the hammer and drift on off it came.:yes:

I had to use a puller and throw some flame (heat) to it. Then it came right off.
