what do you torque timingchain bolts to on a pre 87 305?

2 no, if you use the lock plate
3 only one way to install it

IF not get one... Ebay has them anywhere from 1.00 to 20.00

GET ONE.. it will solve most your problems, and educate you at the same time... in basic engine assembly

seriously, put down the tools, and step away before you do serious damage.
