I had the same problem on my passenger side...turned out to be a blown header gasket...check all the cheap stuff first then cross your fingers if you have to keep looking:eek:

Another thing that will cause a ticking will be the fuel pump push rod. It will sound like a lifter. Dave

I just ignore the ticking and keep filling her up with oil ;) :D .

Seriously, you shouldn't tighten down the rockers without spinning the motor to TDC and setting the preload. You'll probably bend pushrods if you crank them down like that.

It happened to me also, if you have press in studs, take a straight edge ruler and see if any of them are lifting out. if they are my suggestion would be to pull the head and get it rebuilt. But like stated above check the things that are less expensive and dont require alot of time.
