I have a friend who has a old fire truck with 5:13 rear gears.

He wants to install a 700R4 for lower RPM's on the highway.

To determine the theoretical gear, is it as simple as multiplying 5:13 by .70? Or am I missing something.

That is how you'd do it but I do not think the 700r$ has a .700 fourth gear. I have a 2004R and it is supposed to be a .76 and if I remember correctly the 700 is just slightly less overdrive than that say about a .780 or .800 but I cannot remember exactly what it is.

I stand corrected, the memory isn't what it used to be. I thought the 200 had a better OD than the 700, apparently not.

Love my 700r4. Beat it at the strip and drive it on vacation.
