My car has the original 283 with 195k miles. Doesnt smoke, runs good.

I came across a 283 newly rebuilt with camelback heads, nice cam and a 4 barrel carb. This engine is free as I sold a car for the guy on eBay. Would it be logical for me to drop in this high perf. 283 and throw my original on a stand?... I would keep it until I sold the car I'm just looking for a lil more pep and I think this will work.

Sounds like the price is right. If you have a manual transmission and this is not a block with the recessed oil filter you will have to used the clutch linkage kit to fit the non Chevy 2 block. If it is an automatic it should drop in after you change the oil pump, pump shaft, pickup and pan to the front sump.

My first build on my 63 was a 283... almost what you've gotten.
heads 4 barrle... Automatic, (was a th400 that was a pain to swap in)
And it ran like a bat out-a-he11.
wskaiser is right on the button on the swap.
Should be a lot more fun
