I just picked up a project car with a nice 350 sbc and the car is great driving and never over heats but at an idle it will spit water out the overflow. The guy I got it from swears the crank pulley is to big causing the water pump to spin to fast and spit the water out. Don't sound right to me so I was hoping to get a few ideas from you guys. The crank pulley is huge it only has a 3/8 gap between it the water pump pulley but that still sounds funny to me. Some thoughts and ideas would be great. Thanks

Could be as easy as a new radiator cap. Don't use one with the relief valve on top. Get a 18-22 lb. plain cap and see if that helps....it could be the pulley,but the cap is cheap to see if it works.

drain the radiator, flush it good and drop a new radiator cap on it. I had the same issue and just needed a new cap. water in the radiator was nasty brown so I flushed it also.

There is a kit to test for a leaking head gasket they sell at most parts suppliers, which is a possibility too.
