I purchased sound a sound deadener kit along with new carpet for my 62 Nova through YearOne. The sound deadener consists of precut mats that look and smell like asphalt. One side has a thin film like paper. The other is a heavy black paper. Neither side peels off. How are these installed? Do you use a heat gun to melt the asphalt like substance so it seeps through the film like surface? Any help will be appreciated.

like ryan said, just leave it....guarantee that if you glue, shortly thereafter(maybe the next week, and only if you glue it) you'll need to pull it up for some reason and be pissed, not only cause it will take forever to get up, but then you will need to get another section

Hmmm, thats odd, Im surprised the thin film doesnt peel off to reveal a sticky side to lay down. Im one to figure things out and it doesnt sound right. A slippery film of plastic wouldnt make for a secure underlayment. If it were mine, not saying you should do it, but I would warm a sheet up, either in the sun or with a hot air gun and see if the plastic film wants to release. It actually should release easier while cold. Interesting. JR

Thanks for the replys. From what I've read, sound deadener is not very effective if it is not fastened on to the sheet metal. These mats are precut to fit in specific locations. They do not have any adhesive. I was able to get hold of their customer service today, they told me to use an adhesive to glue them on. I did heat one up, it got very pliable and conformed to the floor really well.
