My neighbor, who has been complaining about the brakes on his little Ranger.

I have been telling him for months to lets look at it. He keeps bragging about his ### buddy doing work on his vehicles.

yesterday he finally walks up to me with this blank face and ask if we can look at it. His emergency brakes have failed.

I pull the rear drum, what do you see?

This is the drivers side rear.

there are 2 MAJOR!!! problems!

the broken cable is a given! There is still 2 major issues!!

I only see the short shoe in the back instead of the front. Is that brake lining in the bottom of the backing plate? RICK

Looks like the wheel cylinder at the bottom is not connected to the shoes and the return springs aren't connected either...

Hard to see with the hub in the way...

John
You 1/2 right!

It's not a wheel cylinder, that is the self adjuster.

Unbelievable!

Park brake cable disconnected. Or he ran over a blue thing and it's stuck in the pinion seal? RICK

And the spring between the shoes by the adjuster is missing.

Thanks for the larger photo, I am old and do not see well.
The spring is there, it goes to the adjuster leaver, Ford Design, not GM.

The real problem, is unqualified people performing repairs they know nothing about!:( This is the reason we are told what we can and can't do.

That crap if we can say that is probably from beating the brake drum on and the shoes dragging on the drum. RICK
