It was a manual...want to use my powerglide cheaply, how??

I would like to throw in the original 250/powerglide combo from my 71 into a 73 rolling chasis I just got so I can drive it around.

Problem is the 73 car was a manual. I see the auto trans linkage is all there from the column to the frame under the car. But inside the car there is obviously no shift lever on the column. I am NOT invetsing in this car. So buying a floor shifter is out of the question (unless I can get one for basically free)

I notice if I grab the column where the shift lever usually is, I can turn it and move the trans linkage, will I be able to shift like this? How else can I cheaply use my auto trans in this old 3-pedal hatchback?
