hi guys i have been taking apart my 63 ss to get it media blasted.now my car is all original matching numbers but it has been repainted once before.it was painted the original color.but when i started taking the back chrome pieces the paint color is silver between the taillights and the chrome mouldings on the rear of the car.they did not remove the mouldings or emblems for the second paint job so the original paint is under the emblems.at first i thought it might be a diffrent trunk lid from a diffrent car but the top of the trunck lid is the correct color and behind the tail lights on the quarter panels it also matches the silver color.

so is it a normal thing for the back area to be silver?

so far everything on the vin has match is the silver part of it or do i have some patch job on the rear?

Just to add to 6T6Nova's post, the silver trunk cove was only on 63-65 SS cars. This paint matches the silver color found on the last 2/3's of the 63's full length body trim.

hey thats a really sweet ride.

do any of you know the color code for the silver?
i would like to restore that color on my car when i get ready to repaint it.
i was thinking of painting my car black.
but the more i tare into it and realize how it is all still original.makes my think twice about changing the color.
it is saddel color now and that is the color code on the vin.

i dont hate the color its nice but i was thinking of a black color with silver ghost flames.with all the original trim put back on after i have it redone.

the car still has the crome trim that runs on the top of the fenders all the way to the back.the center trim and the bottom trim on the rocker panels.window and the gutters.

well when i get to that point i hope i know what color i want.

but i do want to paint the back of the trunk lid silver.

I agree. Afriend of mine has the same thing on his restored '64 and I asked the same questions.
My '63 is Irmine white and its going to have the same silver application when I get it painted.
Just my two cents - I have a '69 Chevelle that is Burnished Brown with a Champaine (silver) top. At first, I thought it was baby crap brown - really didn't care for it. But as time as gone by, it's grown on me, I like it now because it's different from everyone else's. Plus, I get a lot of compliments on it. Might want to leave it the original colar.
