Side View/Rear View

I've been looking at some options for side and rear view mirrors for the project. As cool as peep mirrors and the such are I'm looking for something a little more unique. I'm not really looking for something nostalgic but I also don't want it to be super modern either. I've looked at some motorcycle mirrors for side views and there are a few that I like but none that have really appealed to me at first sight.

There is one that I'm thinking may work but it doesn't really have a mounting base. It's just the stem with 2 screws that screw into it. To me it would seem that you would need to fabricate some sort of base as it seems kind of flimsy to do it that way.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!

John,

You looking for billet, chrome, or paint to match?
I'm not so worried with the finish as I can change that to whatever I want. I'm looking more for the shape of the mirror and the stem. I think I may have found something but I need to hear back from the company as I have a few questions in regards to how it needs to be mounted.

I could go with a traditional round mirror like the ones our cars came with originally and that is certainly something that I can fall back on if I don't find anything I really like but I'd like to get something a little different.

Here's one style I've been thinking may work but I don't like the base. The shape of the mirror is ok but I don't like the mounting base or stem. Looks kind of cheap to me.

How about a set of new style camaro mirrors ? I have thought a lot about these on my 67 . Not sure if they will sit like they are suppose to as compared to the originals , but might look pretty good if they do and be different at the same time. Good luck .

Those are also a choice although they are a little too modern for me. I know I've been updating most all the mechanical systems in the car to modern ones but I'd like to keep the appearance of the car somewhat stock in a sense so it's a balance of both old school and new school.

John
how about some for a Bel Air?

i think the square type ones are easy to see with, the little round ones are a little hard to see with IMO

A little too much on the nostalgic side for me. I guess a better way to explain it is something that has an old school look but with a more modern feel.

ya that's a little tough to decide, can you compare it to any other car? like an example car side mirror you like or have seen?

That's what makes this so hard. It's such a delicate balancing act. I want to honor the original lines of the car but still update it so that it's not just some resto bolt it on and be done deal(Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

lol, hard to say, i think it would be easier to figure it out once the paint and other things come together, as is right now would be hard to decide exterior stuff without knowing how the finished product looks  maybe it is easy for you since in your crazy head you know what it is going to look like! :D

Exactly.... Without a view of the car it is hard to come to the " ahaaaa" moment while looking at options.

(hint, hint)
Mirror

How about the stock one with a carbon fiber treatment

Well....since I didn't do any really radical body mods like chopping the top or anything like that you can pretty much tell from any lowered 2nd gen what it'll look like.

I'd say that the car is pretty much the definition of what a Pro-Touring car would be like so maybe that will help.

Does this help?

(I know what you're trying to do!:D)

Now that I think of it, DUH! Photoshop is my friend!! I'll try and chop a few of the ones I like onto the car and see if it works.

Thanks for the inspiration!:)

John is that yours, I really like the stance. You'll have to tell me all about it at the mini nats. One day I'll have a second gen one day.

Yup! That's my rig!

See ya at the Nats!!!:)

I have these on my Nascar Nova. Found them cheap on Ebay. Only required drilling 2 holes to mount base. Thay were a cheesy fake carbon fiber, but i painted them black. They are motorcycle mirrors.
