 71 SS Clone 350 4speed newer muncie 4 speed..slight tailshaft gear oil leak..
Anyways shutting car off in nuetral while coasting forward or reverse..I hear a slight click or clack sound (in synch with revolutions speed)..
Normal ?? Or maybe something needs attention? :turn: thanks in advance!

Probably nothing. Is your speedo cable loose at all, does your speedo operate correctly? Could be a speedo gear noise. I know on the Saginaws, the reverse idler gear just flops around on the shaft, and they click now and again, can't remember if the Muncies are the same.

Worst case scenario is a chipped gear, but I don't think I'd worry about it... And I know it's driving you nuts!:)
im going to agree with seventynova, sounds like u joints, when they get worn, they make clicking noises at slower speeds as they bend and twist for the driveshaft, at higher speeds the shafts stays at a straighter level and they dont make any real noise.

HOWEVER, if your u joints get to the point where they just fall out or crumble out, you do not want to be driving when that happens, the shaft will hit the ground, and the diff MIGHT, i wont say will, but might, turn towards the ground and if something hits it your rear goes into the air.

i dont think many cars hyave them, but my truck, has a two section torquetube, if my ujoints break out, the second half would dig into the ground and launch my rear right up.
Check u joints sounds like a possibility

Ok..So no hole shots till then:no:

So If i try and twist the driveshaft back and forth ..with car in the air i should hear it?

BTW speedometer works but is off 10mph or so..dont know exactly why but car was originally automatic,so maybe thats it..
retorque the wheel lugnuts,if they loose will click on coast. just a thought but better to be safe.
if you get it in the air, just look at the u joints, see if they move around at all, they should be in there nice and snug, but if you can wiggle it back and forth, it should be replaced
Yep all set!!

Just had my pro look into it ..rear yoke needs replacing (he said) and u joints loose..shaking driveshaft had play in it..
thanks again!
