So I have a 67 Acadian with a JW Rod Garage front clip. The back has been tubbed so I will be running a slightly wider than stock tire and a narrowed 9 inch.
Now my problems/questions. And there is a lot.
1.)Should I go with a 6.0 or a 5.3L from a truck?
a.) There is about a 40 to 50 difference in torque. But is there an actual size difference?
2.)If I go with a 5.3 what years would be most desirable?
a.) a 2003 Silverado 5.3 specs at 285 hp/325t. The 2007 is 315 hp/338t.
b.) It seems from previous posts everyone has some thoughts on drive by wire. Any new thoughts? What year did DTW start?
3.)Super Chevy did a series where they took a 5.3 truck engine that started with 343hp/372T. Not sure what year that was. With a Comp Cam XR265HR and a tune it was up to 385hp/412T. What has anyone else had with a tune and cam change?

4.)From what I have found surfing the net the 4l60e is good for 360ft/lbs and the 4l65e is good for 380ft/lbs. Has anyone run into any problems if pushing 400? Any problems with either one?

Like I said lots of questions. Thanks for any advice!!!

Bigger is better, if you have the resources. Haven't run into anyone that wants fewer ponies or less tranny for their hotrod.

The 5.3 and 6.0 blocks are the same, the only difference is the bore.

The drive by wire came along late in 2002 and i think the active fuel management came around in 2005 or 2006. If you get a drive by wire engine make sure you get the throttle pedal and plug too.

I went with a 2002 6.0 with a throttle cable because the 6.0 was only a $100 more and the more cubes the better!

With the 5.3 you are limited by what heads you can use(cathedral only). If you ever decide that you want bigger heads (square port) you will not be able to do it. With the 6.0 you can use either head design.
