I am looking to check the timing since my 63 w 194 and had a question.

Since the 1st step was to make sure the ide is around 500 rpms, do I have to disconnect the spark advance vacuum hose from the distributor as I do for the timing light check? Or is that disconnect only done for timing check?

tune up

run until operating temp is reached. disconnect vacuum line then adjust idle speed required to set timing 8 degrees b4 idle speed 500 rpm.
