A friend is running a 99 350 vortec, carb no injection. Using a stock hei distributor and using the factory 99 platinum spark plugs.

he's having an off idle miss and blowing black smoke we have tryed adjusting the carb but dosnt help, could the platinum plugs be the problem? Maybe not enough volts from the stock coil for the platinums?

if it was not missing before....i'd check to make sure all the plug wires are in the correct order... I had this happen to me but it was backfiring through the carb.

it ran fine for about 150 miles then started this

maybe a float sunk or a power valve blew?

With the balck smoke, that would make me think it's a fuel problem. Sounds like it's loading up or too rich.

Verify the float levels are set correctly FIRST!

Something happened to the carb, 150 miles ok then black smoke, miss? Fix the carb, dirt, blown power valve, loose jets, bad float, something, fix the carb.
