I have a 200r4 OD automatic with a lockup converter. It seems that the solenoid (or whatever) has gone bad. Everything is wired correctly but stopped working this year. I do very little highway driving and only drive around town - and not much in hot weather - and no traffic. I could care less if the OD ever is put on, but am I damaging the transmission by driving without the OD turned on once I am 'at speed'? I wouldn't think so, but thought I would get some opinions.

Thanks,

OD and converter lock up are two separate things. OD is just the forth gear. But running the converter not locked up is no problem at all. It only locks up at a certain speed anyway, most of the time is not locked going though town.. Only thing that will suffer is some gas mileage on the highway. JR

Heat should be your major concern. Lockup reduces the heat generated inside the converter. If you have a good cooling system, you will be fine.
