how many revs should i be loseing when going from park to in gear..what would be normal,,why am i dropping like 400 rpm??

A typical engine probably makes only about 10 hp at idle. The load that the torque converter puts on the engine slows it down. If you have a lumpy idle cam then you aren't making much torque at such a low rpm. A looser converter may help. It also may help to simply tune your engine. That includes possibly more base timing (you'll have to limit your total advance) and adjustment of your idle mixture using a vacuum gauge.
