I need some help with figuring out where to head with this problem. It all started with a minor burnout...right after the car started running rough..I really feal I should two foot it when i come to a stop. I checked plugs, and changed the fuel filter. I've never really played with timing, so I took it to the guy who does work on my daily drivers, and he put in new plugs, and advanced the timing 4 degrees, and it runs better, but still idles like sh$%.
There are three things I've been mulling over, and need some opinions...they are;
*rebuild the carb...
*new wires (the current are about 3 yrs old)
*distributor issues? (its an inexpensive hei)

Any ideas welcomed...

Paul:confused:

You might have broke a valve spring or a rocker fell off the pushrod.
Do a compression check and pull the valve covers.

Do what Paul mentioned.

But check some simple stuff.

vacuum leak? Number one cause of ruff idle.

Carb gasket? Bad PCV valve?

Paul could be on the right track, valve train problems after burn out. Especially if you did the burn out at a high RPM.

Good luck
