i have 235 60 15'' with 4 1/8 BS on the back of my 66 they dont rub but are close to fender edge, 3/8'' clearance.

I assume you are referring to a 7" wide rim. You should be fine but a 235/45/17 tire would fit better and may fit front and rear allowing you to rotate your tires.
