I believe the '66 and '67 boxes are different. If I understand it correctly, the '66 box has the long, one piece steering shaft (up through the column, into the interior) and the '67 box uses a rag joint to attach to the steering shaft.
'66, '67 experts will chime in, I'm sure.

My '67 had a rag joint.
The 66 has an integral shaft that goes up through the column as Chuck mentioned, but the 67 has a splined connection at the steering box (no rag joint).

Thats a fact! 1967 is the only year of the spline, its a 3/4" - 36 spline, female/male. must have the matching column.
Most vendors have the box or you can go the route I did and use Lee Manufacturing Co in Semi Vally, Tom Lee is a great guy and he will put in a welded quick ratio corvette gear. 818-768-0371. good luck Mark
