What's the best gear to run in a 10 bolt behind a 350 making around 330hp with a 700r trans? The rear tire has a 23.7 over all diameter.

I'd probably go 3.42-3.73's. I had a 400 with a 700R4 and 3.42's never got the chance to see how it ran but figured it do good. With the th350 it would buzz like 3400 on the freeway keeping up with traffic. Thats with a 245/60-15 tire.

Co-signed on the 3.42s.

You'll be spinning about 2350 RPM at 70 mph. Should be right in the sweet spot for power.

Thats a small rear tire!! We got 3.73's with 700r4 but 26" tire! which is a bitchen combo, 1st gear is like haveing 4.86's! So i would go the 3.42 with your tire size.

Thats a 45........ If I go with a 50, then it 24.9 I think the 50 will be the size I go with.

Thanks for the link

If I go with the 3.42 then that puts it @ 2100 on the freeway with a 24.9 tire. Should knock down some pretty good gas milage.

When I go here http://700r4.com/speedoCalc/rpmcalc.shtml It even gives me speed @ a given rpm.

Must be nice to have the Overdrive:yes:. My 4.11's with 1:1 is not very friendly on the freeway:no:

The gearing on the overdrive trans is way different!! 1st gear is a 3.06 verse a 2.50!! 2nd gear is like your 1st gear! So with a 3.73's 1st gears is like haveing 4.86's and then overdrive is .76 to 1 so you have the best of both worlds.

Drive ratio

Well, I can give you actual numbers from my 63. Although the tach is a small inexpensive unit and may not be the most accurate.
I run a 700R4 with a 24.7" tire and 3:55 gear. As stated earlier first gear is awesome, 70-75 mph on the hwy results in about 2700 rpm's. My trips over 100 miles have usually been about 15.5-16 mpg (not really driving for mpg). I quite often keep the car in 3rd gear for intown driving and it is very responsive. The trans was built for performance with a 3500 stall converter. I'm pretty sure the lockup was eliminated. Coys 17x7 wheels are running 45 series tires.
