I know that this subject has been covered but I have a rear end that doesn't match date codes shown on Novaresource web site. I just got what appears to be a 1978 Nova 10 Bolt. The Axle tube stamping is: 2TX G 80472. The 2TX decodes to 1978 Nova 3.08:1 Open; G is Detroit Gear; 8047 is not defined on any Nova web site - I assume that it is 8 for 1978 and 047 for the 47th day of that year (Feb 16); the 2 should mean second shift.

The casting # is 1254333, with a casting date of B 15 8. My question is: Has anyone else seen rear ends with similar date coding? Is there a web site that can confirm my interpretation?

By the way the spring perch centerline is 42.5" and the overall dimension is 60.25" so it sure seems to be a 70's Nova rear.

When opened up it has 3.42:1 gears with an Eaton Posi that had to be installed after Feb 1981 based on the date code on the ring gear. Not a bad buy for $100.

Since the casting date and assembly date are within a day, I would say your are correct.

10 Bolt Info

I can post some pix tomorrow. It looks exactly like your web site 10 Bolt 8.5" leftmost picture. It is a 8.5" 10 Bolt with an Eaton Posi now.

Have you seen those kind of date codes before with the additional digit being the year?
