put my rear end all together. went to slide on new drums and they would not go on. checked adjuster and it was in all the way. compared new shoe to old one and noticed that at the top were it is rounded to seat on the mounting post the old one is shorter so it will go in towards the center more. do these shoes come in differnt styles?

You have a short shoe and a long shoe.

One of each per side, the short shoe faces the front of the vehicle.

If you have mixed these up and have the 2 long shoes together this could be the problem.

there are 2 different dia brake shoe systems.
The most common is 9.5 inch dia. 2inch wide 99.9% coverage.

There is a 10.5 inch (Very very rare unless a Full size vehicle)

the problem was that the guy at car quest did not really listen to what i had to say. i told him the rear was out of a 75 nova.and he said they are al the same even after i said there is a 245# stamped on the shoe. so my buddy did some digging today @ bond auto and found out that my rear takes a shoe part# 245 and not the common 242. the 245 has a smaller circumfrance. and a bigger wheel cylinder. getting all the parts tommorow. now the bummer is that they wont take the old new ones back cause i painted them. por15 paint now they are worth more i think.
