Dear Nova fellows,

I have another question for you:

My rear axle is making a lot of noise when coasting ever since (howling like the wolves in AK), but is functioning alright.
It is a F*** 9" with a TrackLock (which is really quiet during cornering) and a 3.7:1 Gear. I am using 80w oil with the correct additive for the TrackLock.

When I am parking after some 10 or more miles it will dribble a little bit of oil out of the vent on top - and it has a temperature that I can just barely touch it with my hand. Temperature is cooler on the sides, so it is not the brakes (discs).

How hot do rear ends get?

Check your pinion nut. A loose nut on the pinion will allow it to go too deep and howl on decelleration.
