Cruised around town and over to the next little town. Took a back way out and hit the highway. I was already rolling down the road in first and nailed it, hit second, then third. Seen the tach hit 6700rpms, I really need to put a 67-6800 chip in the MSD box as I have a 7000 in it and haven't even noticed where my shift lite is set at now. It was at 6500 rpms. I have ran it up to 6500 rpms with the old 2.73 gear. This was the first time to lay into it with this 4.10(have about 150 miles on the rearend). Noticed the temp go up to 220, first time it has gone over 180. I shut it down as I knew it slung the belt. Gonna have to put a deep groove pulley. This thing was pulling good.:D:yes:

I ran my last 71 Nova(406) this way up to 68-7000 rpms. That one I had to take a little off of the bushing behind the alternator and it never slung the belt after that.

This one is aligned good, but probably get the Moroso deep groove pulley. I like the plain old v-belt (simple and clean).
I've got the same problem.. I had to shim behind my alt but it still likes to toss it every now and then. I have to watch my alt and temp after I nail it to see if it tossed it lol.
I bought a set of repop deep groove pulleys for my engine and it been over 7000 a few times with no belt trouble. It was fairly cheap to go this route and it looks oe too. You could probably go with the repop Z28 setup on your SB.

Not yet, eased it around town this morning :D. Seen Moroso alternator pulley and seen a few on Ebay.

I'll just have to keep it down to 6000 rpms for a bit.:D
sounds like she's a runner! When ya gonna take her to the track :D
I have ran z28 deep groove pulleys and turned 8000 to 9000 rpm with then with no belt problems.

I actually tightened the belt a little tighter than it was and it might hold like that. I have heard the belt squeal a little in park when I hit the throttle pretty good. I am hoping it will run between 11.30-11.50s, I would be surprised if it does any better than that. Have the front runners in Weld Draglites(new in box) and need to get some back 7" or 8" along with some Hoosiers. Then probably if I can't afford to do disc brakes by the time I get to the track then at least rebuild the fronts. Already inspected rears, pedal is great, at higher speeds I have just a little front brake pull. Hoping at least by spring time I'll get it to the track. I drive it every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as long as the weather is good right now.
