Putty Between Trunk Bracing and Skin?

1511 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  MBZTECH
Can anyone point me towards what original material is placed between the trunk skin and the bracing on the underside of the trunk? Mine is gone and it rattles, so any help would be great. Not sure what they do with repops, unless it comes it on already.

Thanks much,

Rusty

Mines all cut out at this point but I don't remember any bracing under the trunk except what the gas tank was strapped to... other wise isn't it all frame that is spot welded?

or are you talking about the seem sealer around the side drops?

got a picture that might help...

trunk lid?
there is stuff for that but i cant rember what its called im sure a body guy will speak up
I think it's called dum dum. No joke. RICK
Yeah, I mean the actual trunk lid--like underneath where the jacking instructions are. My apologies if that isn't actual bracing, that is just what I was calling the kind of "X" pattern that is on the underside of the trunk lid. My beat up extra trunk lid has some, but its hard, and my decent one has none.

Thanks for the tip, time to look for some dum-dum!

I use 3m automotive 8463 it is a flexible foam used for Hood, doors, trunk only need a few drops because it expands good stuff. Hope this helps.

putty between trunk bracing and skin

I believe its seam sealer chaulk. Dum Dum stays soft. Seam sealer hardens and eventually shrinks. Thats why its missing.
Sorry I was under the trunk on the ground not the lid... totally different! LOL and yes I'd call that bracing also...

Interesting input dum dum stays soft and the seam sealer gets hard and shrinks...

I'll be needing to do something simaliar on the other end, I cut the Bracing out of the hood for the louvers to be punched... I'm looking into putting that bracing in in the next few days...
